Once upon a time in the whimsical realm of avant-garde soundscapes and artistic marvels, there was a human named Bryan Eubanks. As enigmatic as a Cheshire cat's grin and as eclectic as a kaleidoscope, Bryan's journey through life reads like a colorful tapestry woven with threads of eccentricity and creativity. Hailing from the wasted lands of southeastern Washington State (Eastern Cascadia), his first introductions to music came via half asleep saxophone instructors, abusive piano teachers, and agoraphobic guitarists. After a spell as a photographer's assistant, he found improvised music through intense collaborations with Joe Foster, Jean Paul Jenkins and Portland, Oregon circa 1999/2000. Later migrating to the Big Apple on the trail of a doomed love, Bryan humbly toiled away [recorded with Joe McPhee and played constantly with Andrew Lafkas] and his resume was a fantastical medley of oddities. For a spell, he bore the proud title of "Phill Niblock's Worst Assistant," a badge of honor he wore as he scrubbed toilets with unparalleled enthusiasm, cooked pasta with a dash of avant-garde flair, and mended broken speakers as if he could coax music from the very wires. He painted the floor (and ceiling) of Shelley Hirsch's abode, drove a van all day, quit jobs, got fired, wasted money, and ate poorly.
Bryan's generosity was as vast as the cosmos he explored through his music. He was known to loan lighters with a wink and a nod, and his passion for sound found a home at Sacred Realism, where hepublished music that resonated with the harmonious nature of all living things. In 2013, Bryan packed his bags, perhaps with a few lighters in tow, and set sail for the magical city of Berlin. Here, he found a haven for the unconventional, where his unique talents flourished amidst the vibrant, artistic community. But Bryan's path was as winding as a psychedelic lullaby. He danced with academia and but dropped out, letting his curiosity for the boundless world of sound guide him. He shared a swimming pool and a joint with the legendary Richard Teitelbaum under lightning bolts. Bryan Eubanks, the wizard of sound, the painter of ceilings, the keeper of lighters, and the maestro of the avant-garde, continues to write his whimsical melody on the canvas of life, enchanting all who dare to join him in his extraordinary journey!
